Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: A total of 120 patients with PGS after abdominal surgery were recruited from the department of gastrointestinal surgery of the study hospital from May 2006 to December 2012. All had undergone surgery under general anesthesia. The patients were randomly divided into a mental intervention group (n = 60) and a control group (n = 60) by odd and even numbers, which were assigned to the mental intervention group and control group, respectively. Inclusion criteria were: definitive diagnosis of PGS, voluntary participation and informed consent, normal hearing and ability to communicate.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were: history of schizophrenia, abnormal hearing and inability to communicate, aged 75 or older with severe cardiac or pulmonary complications, cognitive impairment and advanced gastric tumor metastasis.
