Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The diagnosis of severe sepsis was based on the criteria of the American College of Chest Physicians/Society of Critical Care Medicine (ACCP/SCCM) Consensus Conference 1992 Committee and 2001 SCCM/ ESICM/ ACCP/ATS/SIS International Sepsis Definitions Conference.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The excluding criteria: patients with hypoproteinemia before admission; patients receiving corticosteroids in the past 4 weeks and patients with diabetes mellitus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
