Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who were HBsAg positive for more than 7 months were included. Only patients who had not received antiviral drugs (lamivudine, adefovir dipivoxil, entecavir, or interferons) or immunoregulatory drugs (thymosin, corticosteroids, cytokines, etc.) for more than 6 months prior to the study were enrolled.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: postmenopausal women, those known to have been surgically sterilized, or those using contraceptives and who were pregnant or breast feeding.
