Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Presence and location of lacunes were recorded by a consultant neuroradiologist, based on T1W, T2W, FLAIR images and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI). A chronic lacune was defined as a cerebrospinal fluid-filled cavity, not hyper-intense on DWI, 3 to 15 mm in diameter, with a surrounding rim of high signal intensity on FLAIR following a vascular distribution
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were an acute infarction with hyper-intense on DWI; cortical and/or subcortical nonlacunar infarcts or intracerebral hemorrhage identified by MRI; severe cardiovascular, renal, hepatic, neoplastic or chronic disease; major psychiatric comorbidity; major depression, and dementia.
