Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Acute cerebral infarction or TIA group: 1) Aged 18-80 years old; 2) acute cerebral infarction or TIA patients: 3) onset within 7 days; 4) patients or their families sign informed consent, and have the ability to follow the research program. no cerebral infarction or TIA, with intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic plaques group: 1) Aged 60-80 years old; 2) previous carotid and neck vascular evaluations (carotid ultrasonography, head and neck artery CTA, head neck MRA or high-resolution vascular wall MR) suggest presence of intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic plaques; 3) patients or their families sign informed consent, and have the ability to follow the research program.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) cerebral infarction with no symptoms or signs; 2) with consciousness disorders, mental disorders, aphasia or dysarthria, or at the end of severe diseases; 3) patients cannot cooperate for performing high resolution MRI; 4) patients cannot cooperate with follow-up.
