Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Study populationParticipants with lung cancer (n = 60), heart failure (n = 30), TB (n = 60) or pneumonia (n = 30) will be recruited from the Shuang Ho Hospital (Taipei Medical University). Patient characteristics and histories, including age, sex and previous hospital admissions, will be collected for each participant. All personal ID will be masked and encoding.The study criteria are as follows:Lung cancera)Patients with a histologically proven malignancy (including SCLC and NSCLC)b)Patients who are more than 20 years old and have provided signed informed consentc)Patients in whom the indication for pleural effusion thoracentesis was exertional dyspnoea (no additional samples will be collected and no unnecessary surgical procedures will be performed)Exclusion criteria:a)HIV (+) patientsHeart failureInclusion criteria:a)Patients with a confirmed clinical diagnosisb)Patients who are more than 20 years old and have provided signed informed consentc)Patients in whom the indication for pleural effusion thoracentesis was exertional dyspnoea (no additional samples will be collected and no unnecessary surgical procedures will be performed)Exclusion criteria:a)HIV (+)TB and pneumoniaInclusion criteria:a)Patients with culture-proven TB, including pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB and pneumoniab)Patients who are more than 20 years old and have provided signed informed consentc)Patients in whom the indication for pleural effusion thoracentesis was exertional dyspnoea (no additional samples will be collected and no unnecessary surgical procedures will be performed)
