18 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 18-75 years old; 2. Diagnosis of cirrhosis (based on liver biopsy or unequivocal clinical data and compatible findings on imaging techniques); 3. Presence of esophageal and gastric varices with or without a previous variceal bleeding episode; 4. Agreed and signed informed consent before participating in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Basal HVPG less than 12 mmHg; 2. End-stage cirrhosis (refractory ascites hepatorenal syndrome type I, 15 points on the Child–Pugh score); 3. Contraindications to ß-blockers (asthma,severe chronic obstructive lung disease, sinus bradycardia, II-III degree atrioventricular block, uncompensated congestive heart failure, and severe peripheral angiopathy); 4. Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, portal vein thrombosis, Serious heart, lung, liver and renal insufficiency.
