Control group:no intervention
Replacing grain group:150 kg of rice from non-KBD areas
selenium supplementation group:7 kg of selenium-iodine salt
Combined group:150 kg of rice from non-KBD areas and 7 kg of selenium-iodine salt

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria included children aged 6-11 years, children who lived in our test sites > 3 years, patients with KBD who had important clinical signs and symptoms, such as joint thickening, joint pain, joint deformity, muscle weakness, limitation of motion and muscle atrophy, and children who were diagnosed and graded according to the Chinese Radiological Criteria of Kashin-Beck Disease Diagnosis (GB16003-1995).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children with other joint diseases, such as joint inflammation, metabolic bone diseases, neoplasia, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia, as well as those who declined to join the survey, were excluded.
