Dexmedetomidine group:epidural administration of1.0 µg/kg dexmedetomidine 5 ml
Fentanyl Group:Epidural administration of 2µg/ml fentanyl 5ml

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 88 American Society of Anaesthesiology Physical Status I to III patients undergoing gastrectomy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if they met at least one of the following criteria: neurologic or psychiatric disease, known allergy to local anaesthetic, diabetes, a history of gastrointestinal motility disorders and epigastric operation, renal or hepatic insufficiency, bleeding or coagulation test abnormalities, were receiving anticoagulant, and emergency surgery.
