Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) biopsy-proven NSCLC, including squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, large cell neuroendocrine, and non-small cell carcinoma not otherwise specified; (2) Tumor within or touching the zone of the proximal bronchial tree defined as a volume of 2 cm in all directions around the proximal bronchial tree; (3) tumor size >3 cm but =5 cm, and staging studies must identify the lesion as T2aN0M0; (4) patient must be considered medically inoperable by an interdisciplinary group consisting of a pulmonologist, thoracic surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist; (5) Karnofsky performance status (KPS) =70.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) tumor size >5 cm; (2) patients who have previously received radiation therapy to areas of the lung or mediastinum near target; (3) active systemic, pulmonary, or pericardial infection; (4) chemotherapy within 2 weeks of first planned fraction of SBRT; (5) pregnant women or women of childbearing.
