Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Eligibility was restricted to those patients aged over 25 years, and with a mean atrophy score = 1.0. Thus, all participants had moderate-to-severe atrophic gastritis; the majority had intestinal metaplasia.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Specific exclusions included a history of cancer or of abdominal surgery; those with some serious chronic diseases such as chronic heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease; and those currently taking pills containing either ß-carotene or folic acid.
