Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The diagnosis of CHD was confirmed by positive coronary angiography or angioplasty (an angiographic evidence of at least one 50% diameter stenosis in one or more coronary arteries). The severity of coronary atherosclerosis was defined as number of diseased vessels as ranked variable with significant stenosis and the Gensini score was based on the number of stenotic coronary artery segments in a given subject 16.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: CHD subjects with concomitant valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, acute renal failure, acute and chronic viral or bacterial infections, diabetes, hypertension, tumors, or connective tissue diseases, and those undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery or on dialysis, were excluded from the study. In addition, patients with acute coronary syndrome, or those with symptomatic heart failure were also excluded from the study.
