Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria used were described previously, and they meet the criteria for chronic kidney disease (CKD) classification standard stage 5 (Renal failure stage) as established by the K/DOQI expert group of the United States Kidney Foundation. Briefly, patients in the present study had hemodialysis indications and were 18 years of age or older. The dialysis time was more than three months and was regularly scheduled 2 to 3 times a week. In addition, the patients' conditions needed to be stable, and the patients needed to be able to read and understand the questionnaire supplied.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: patients with severe cognitive dysfunction, patients that could not take care of themselves after renal transplantation, and patients with serious cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases
