Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Long Duration Group 1. Aged 0 month to 3 years; 2. ASA I-III; 3. Estimated time of Anesthesia exposure 3~6 hours; 4. Living in the city where the study site located; 5. Sign the informed consents; Short Duration Group The third criterion of above was changed to the estimated time of anesthesia less than 1hour, and 1:1 match with the long duration group, according to age, sex, ASA classification and family socioeconomic status. The rest of the inclusion criteria was the same as the LDG group.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Premature infants with gestational age less than 36 weeks, or developmental, cognitive or behavioral abnormalities were found based on the preoperative screening. 2. Known congenital malformations which might have potential impact on the development of neurological function 3. Known central nervous system disorder based on the DSM diagnostic criteria 4. History of asphyxia 5. Children undergoing cardiac or neurological surgery 6. Children with malignant tumor with estimated survival time less than five years 7. Children who have contradictions to inhalation anesthesia or general anesthesia 8. The mother of the child had history of general anesthesia during pregnancy, or the child had a history of over 1 hours of anesthesia before the study or had more than two times of anesthesia 9. Communicating difficulty with the guardian 10preoperative Developmental Screening Test (DST)< 85

MeasureTime frame
At the age of 5, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for children, Four Edition (WPPSI-IV) was used to evaluate to IQ total score;

MeasureTime frame
The Wechsler children’s Intelligence Scale (Fourth Edition, WPPSI-IV) could assess different cognitive dimensions;Ages & Stages Questionnaires Third Edition (ASQ-3) to evaluate the differences of neuropsychological development between the two groups at every 0.5 year age increase until 5 years old after surgery;Achenbach's preschool Child Behavior Checklist 4-6(CBCL4-6) completed by parents or caregiver of the children at 4 and 5 years of age;Gesell Development Scale for children to assess the developmental quotient(DQ) difference between two groups at age 3 and 4;Correlation of surgical type, operation time, age of surgery and gender with postoperative neurocognitive development;The incidence of perioperative severe adverse events (SAE) and its association with postoperative neurocognitive development;
