Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Aged greater than 9 and less than 55 (in the preliminary experiment, patients under 9 were difficult to cooperate during the TTE exam , whereas patients over 55 tend to be found white matter hyperintensities on MRI T2 weighted images); To avoid structural lesions that induced epilepsy, choose patients with brain MRI-Negative manifestations; No medical history about heart diseases and central nervous system (CNS) organic diseases; The duration of epilepsy over 1 year; Right to left shunt of PFO confirmed by transthoracic echocardiography.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. The epilepsy patients with definite CNS etiologic causes such as hippocampal sclerosis, cerebral trauma, tumor, cerebrovascular diseases, degenerative diseases, immunologic disorders, demyelinating disorders, cerebral infection, and so on. 1 Especially, given the common cause of epilepsy in China is cerebral infarction, the conditions that any probable lacunar infarct in MRI or suspicious history of transient ischemic attack(TIA) will be excluded; 2. Family history of epilepsy; 3. Left to right shunt of PFO or other cardiac diseases (such as atrial septal defect) found by TTE.
