Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) aged from 18 to 80 years; (2) diagnosis of common cold or influenza by research physicians according to Jackson scale16,withat least one symptom from the following cold symptoms (or synonyms): 1) nasal discharge (runny nose); 2) nasal obstruction (plugged nose, stopped up nose, stuffiness); 3) sneezing, or 4) sore throat (scratchy throat). (3) With onset of symptoms within 48 hours; (4) Physically and mentally prepared and willing to participate.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Any symptoms likely due to allergy, or other non-URI cause, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, etc.; (2) patients that require hospitalization; (3) Those have previous history of asthma or allergic rhinitis; Exclusion for allergy was based on a history of allergy combined with current eye or nose itching or sneezing.
