50 Years to 100 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged more than 50 years presenting for major cardiac surgery in West China Hospital, Sichuan University.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores less than 17 (illiterati), less than 20 (patients with primary education), less than 24(patients with secondary and higher educations); disease of the central nervous system; were taking tranquillisers or antidepressants; had underwent neurological or cardiac surgery; previously underwent neuropsychological testing; were unwilling to comply with the protocol or procedures; had any severe visual or auditory disorders; alcoholism, or drug dependence; were not expected to be discharged alive from hospital after surgery.
