Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The patients were all residents of community health centers in Beijing. They were aged between 20 and 80 years, and all had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients excluded from analysis in the present study included those with type 1 diabetes,urinary infections, hematuria, severe disabilities, hepatic failure, renal failure, schizophrenia,goiter or fever. Patients with evidence of microvascular disease (retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy, and nephropathy) were also excluded.
