Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy undergoing surgery for nonclearing VH, epiretinal membrane, or tractional retinal detachment with or without a rhegmatogenous component were included for analysis.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria included a vitreoretinal comorbidity that affected visual recovery (i.e., central retinal vein occlusion, ocular ischemic syndrome, macular hole, and posterior uveitis); lens opacities more than grade 1 nuclear sclerosis; history of any other ocular disease such as glaucoma, other macular disease and optic nerve disease. We excluded cases with other causes of VH, such as trauma and retinal venous; history of any intraocular surgery.
