Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Age was above eighteen years old; 2. Systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome (SIRS) was caused by severe infection or trauma; 3. The assessment of Marshall Score was more than three; 4. Intestinal dysfunction, and/or abdominal infection, patients who could not intake nutrition via gut and intestine after abdominal or intestinal surgery; 5. Patients took carbopenems initially after they were transported to intensive care unit (ICU).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Disease was as serious as the Marshall Score 20; 2. The basic disease was so severe that it could directly caused death. Those patients who died within 24 hours in ICU, or the ICU stay was less than seven days, or discharged by themselves, or signed the Do Not Resuscitate Paper (DNR) were also excluded.
