Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients were included who were intubated and ventilated for more than 24 hours in the intensive care unit.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. age less than 18 years; 2. transferred into the unit having been ventilated in another hospital; 3. dependence on mechanical ventilation for at least two weeks before enrollment; 4. GCS<7; 5. already enrolled in another research study.
