Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 18 to 70 years of age; established UC according to clinical syndromes, colonoscopic and pathological evidence; Mayo clinical scores 6; Mayo endoscopic scores =3; initial onset cases without any treatment; subjects received a stable dose of 5-ASA (3 g/d) for at least 8 weeks or glucocorticoids for at least 2 weeks and disease remained active; a 1-week washout period before treatment if the patients were exposed to antibiotics, probiotics or other medicines that could influence intestinal flora; and the ability to provide informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if they used immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine within 8 weeks before inclusion, underwent long-term prokinetic treatment to control diarrheal syndrome, had a history of colectomy or other intestinal surgery, had a concomitant C. difficile infection or infection with another enteric pathogen, had severe congenital or acquired immunodeficiency disease, had a progressive disease severity that required hospitalization, or were pregnantor lactating.
