Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: patients with cirrhotic disease; Diagnosis of cirrhosis was made according to the following criteria: liver histology results or clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, and radiological arguments. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) is diagnosed by serological detection of hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibodies (with positive serum HCV-RNA by polymerase chain reaction), respectively.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients will not be included in the study in case of overlapping infection by the HBV and HCV, significant alcohol intake defined at least 40 g of alcohol daily for five years or more, age below 18 years, a noncirrhotic chronic liver disease, transaminases over 3 times the normal upper limit, hepatocellular carcinoma or acute liver failure.
