Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The chronic hepatitis B patients, deyned by hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive for more than 6 months; ALT lower than 10 times upper limit of normal (ULN) but higher than 2 times upper limit of normal (ULN male<55IU/l, female<38IU/L)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Coinfection by hepatitis A virus, hepatitis C virus, hepatitis E virus and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was excluded by serological assays. Drug-induced hepatitis was excluded by careful history taking. Patients were excluded had underlying signi?cant alcohol intake as de?ned by a daily in take of 20 g/day. Abdominal ultrasonography was carried out during admission to exclude hepatocellular carcinoma and decompensation liver cirrhosis.
