Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. T2DM subjects: The criteria of diagnosis of type 2 diabetes recommended by WHO in 1999 were adopted, these newly diagnosed T2DM subjects had fasting plasma glucose levels >7.0mmol/L and 2h OGTT glucose levels >11.1mmol/L; 2. Normal control: healthy person.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: T2DM subjects who were treated with oral hypoglycemic agents were excluded to avoid the possible confounding effects of anti-diabetic medications. T1DM, individuals with gestational diabetes, active hepatitis/liver cirrhosis, chronic renal failure on hemodialysis, congestive heart failure or other known major disease were precluded from the study.
