Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Male and female aged 18 years old and over; 2. clinically suspected infection; 3. fulfilled at least two criterias of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (1) core temperature higher than 38 degree C or lower than 36 degree C (2) respiratory rate above 20/min, or PCO2 below 32 mmHg (3) pulse rate above 90/min, and (4) white blood cell count greater than 12,000/ul or lower than < 4,000/ul or less than 10% of bands.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Those who fulfilled one below: (1) neutropenia (<=500 neutrophils/mm3), (2) HIV infectn, and (3) patients or their ralatives refused.
