Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The VCIND criteria includes six conditions 1. age 45–80 years; 2. the subjects have the histor-y of stroke and/or the neuroimaging (CT or MRI) showes evidence of cerebrovascular diseas-e; 3. the subjects' cognitive impairment does not meet the DSM-IV criteria for dementia; 4. cognitive impairment is judged to have a vascular cause and Hachinski Ischemic Score is greater than 7; 5. the requirement for a cognitive decit to cause functional decits is dened operationally as follows: global functional impairment is de?ned as having dif?culty in any two of the following domains: performing household chores,managing money, feeding self, dressing, and incontinence; 6. written informed consent was obtained from each participant. The VD criteria includes four conditions: (1) age 45–80 years; (2) the subjects have the history of stroke and/or the neuroimaging (CT or MRI) showes evidence of cerebrovascular disease; (3) the subjects' cognitive impairment meet the DSM-IV criteria for dementia; (4) cognitive impair-ment is judged to have a vascular cause and Hachinski Ischemic Score (HIS) is greater than 7; (5) written informed consent was obtained from each participant.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. if they have any of the following conditions: heart failure, respiratory failure, other organ failure,pregnancy and tumor; 2. if they have history of degenerative diseases, including Pa-rkinson's disease,Alzheimer's disease, Multiple System Atrophy and Huntington's disease; 3. if they are unable to attend neuropsychological tests due to severe aphasia; 4. if they have hist-ory of alcohol and other drugs abuse, or have used anticholinesterase, anticoagulants or other drugs that can improve cognition within one year prior to enrollment.
