Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged = 18 years old; 2. diagnosed with rectal cancer; 3. the distance of tumor from anal verge = 10cm; 4. accepted sphicter preserving surgery or temporary stoma closure surgery 1 to 2 weeks after surgery; 5. correctly understand and answer questions in questionnaires; 6. voluntarily to participate in this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. previously suffering from other malignant tumors may affect bowel function; 2. preoperative suffering from other colorectal diseases such as ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease; 3. tumor recurrence, metastasis or death during follow-up; 4. cognitive or language barriers; 5. can not be regularly contacted; 6. severe stoma complications happened during temporary stoma period.
