Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. histologically proven colorectal cancer (i.e. via colonoscopy and/or any other method) with a resectable primary tumour in situ and with or without unresectable distant metastases requiring radiotherapy or chemotherapy; 2. performance status of 0 or 1 based on the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) criteria; 3. aged 30-75; 4. Willing to accept the whole treatment course and sign the informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. rejection of receiving surgery; 2. acute colonic obstruction or perforation; emergency operation; 3. previous or secondary malignancy; 4. previous operation with vagotomy; enterostomy; 5. first exhaust or defecation within 16h postoperatively; 6. preexisting severe cardiovascular, hepatic, renal, hematological, immunologic, mental disease, hyper/hypothyroidism, intestinal parasitic, spinal cord injury; uncontrolled infections requiring systemic therapy; uncontrollable diabetes, hypertension (values>=150/100mmHg); 7. continuous treatment with adrenoceptor stimulating or blocking agents, cholinergic or anticholinergic agents; 8. obvious postoperative complications such as anastomotic leakage or intra-abdominal sepsis; 9. pregnancy, lactation; 10. incapability to continue treatments in this study or application of other therapies like enemas or laxatives to improve gastrointestinal motility due to disease evolution.
