Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) aged between 18 and55 years (either sex); (2) present with a primary complaint of unilateral leg pain radiating below the knee; (3) duration is less than five years; (4) a pain score of 40 mm or more on a 100 –mm visual analogue scale (VAS); (5) present with herniated intervertebral disc in the column according to MRI or CT; (6) anda signed informed consent form.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) referred pain from the upper lumbar column(L1-L3); (2) history of spine trauma, spine surgery; (3) stoke, heart diseases andsevere hypertension, endocrine diseases such as hyperthyroidism; severe infection; (4) undergoing other therapy such as analgesics that might interfere with the ability of acupuncture to heal.
