Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Provision of informed consent prior to any study specific procedures; 2. Type 2 diabetes according to the diagnostic criteria, World Health Organization (WHO), 1999 3. Age between 20 and 75years; 4. Suboptimal glucose control with HbA1c between 7.5% and 9%; 5. More than 2 OADs with more than the 1/2 maximum dose in at least last 3 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Type 1 diabetes; 2. The stenosis of any segment of carotid artery more than 75% proven by high frequency B-ultrasound; 3. An acute cardiovascular event within 30 days prior to randomization; 4. Currently planned coronary, carotid or peripheral artery revascularization or cardiac valve surgery; 5. Previous use of insulin or exenatide more than 1 month; 6. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) or aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level > 2.5 times the upper limit of normal; 7. Serum creatinine =133umol/L for male and =106 µmol/L for female; 8. The history of Pancreatitis; 9. Participating in or had completed another clinical trial of an investigational agent less than 3 months; 10.Positive urinary HCG test or Do not agree to use a reliable method of birth control during the study, as determined by the investigator.
