Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) adult patients admitted to intensive care units (=18 years old); 2) expected length of ICU stay more than 72 hours; 3) signed the informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) ICU readmission; 2) enrollment in another intervention study; 3) expected death within 24 hours; 4) donors for organ transplantation; 5) pregnant women; 6) only receive life-sustaining treatment; 7) indication of hyperbaric oxygenation: carbon monoxide intoxication, gas embolism, necrotizing fasciitis; 8) patients who need a different protocol for oxygen supplementation, such as patients with acute decompensation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
