Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 18 years or over; 2. Informed written consent from patient or eligible representative; 3. Peripheral intravenous catheter in situ with expected therapy >4 days.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Current bloodstream infection; 2. Planned removal of catheter =24 hours; 3. Catheter already in situ >72 hours; 4. individuals with immunodeficiency diseases or receiving immunosuppressive therapy.
