Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis, that is with at least 2 non-adjacent teeth with probing depth =5 mm and evidence of radiographic bone loss, with at least 10 teeth excluding third molars and good systemic health.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnant or lactating females. Subjects with antibiotic therapy, probiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs within past 6 months. Radiation therapy in the head and neck area, HIV, Tuberculosis, hepatitis or other infectious diseases or uncontrolled diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, thyroid disorders or psychological problems.
