Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) adults more than 20 years old; (2) a clinical diagnosis of moderate generalized chronic periodontitis (Armitage 1999), after non-surgical periodontal therapy, the patients with horizontal bone loss, PPD = 5mm and bleeding on probing (BOP) positive sites were recruited; (3) had no systemic antibiotic administration within the previous 3 months; (4) without previous periodontal treatment.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) the presence of a systemic disease, including diabetes, that could influence the course of the periodontal disease; (2) systemic antibiotic administration within the previous 3 months; (3) pregnancy or lactation; (4) refusal to provide written informed consent; (5) an active infection other than periodontitis or having received periodontal therapy in the previous 12 months.
