Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) Diagnosed type 2 diabetes with age = 60 years; (2) HbA1c = 7.5% at baseline; (3) Given informed consent and have the ability to afford treatment cost.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Age 90 years; (2) Type 1 diabetes; (3) HbA1c 14%, and/or fasting plasma glucose > 250 mg/dL (> 13.9 mmol/L); (4) Had cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events within half a year, had uncured diseases with worst prognosis (e.g. active or inactive malignant tumor, chronic kidney disease stage IV or above, chronic heart failure, chronic respiratory failure, middle-later stage hepatocirrhosis, neurological disease, mental disease, hematologic disorders, dermatogic disease), other systemic diseases (e.g. serious infection or trauma, malnutrition, dehydration, major surgery, serious hypotension or hypoxemia); (5) Patients with a short life expectancy, or have a medical status that may affect the effectiveness of medicine; (6) Had a history of unintentional hypoglycemic episodes. (7) Had a history of hemoglobin disorders or hemolytic anemia, or had a history of blood transfusion within 3 months. (8) Had a history of drug or alcohol abuse within 6 months. (9) Hemoglobin < 10 g/dL (female) or 11 g/dL (male), and/or neutrophil < 1,500/mm3, and/or platelet < 100,000/mm3. (10) Patients who do not understand the aim and requirement of the study, who do not accept regular follow-up, who do not comply with the optimal management, and who lack the ability of finishing study. (11) Had any contraindications of taking antidiabetic drugs, or had allergic reaction to these drugs.
