Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) had a confirmed hemispheric stroke (by CT or MRI that occurred at least one month before this study; (2) had spasticity on the upper and/or lower extremities; (3) severity of spasticity was at least one of ten specific muscle group (details in Outcomes and Measurements) >=1+ assessed by the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS); (4) had a score of >=21 on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE); (5) the types and doses of antispasmodic drugs were stable at least one month, if they used; (6) Aged 18 years old or above.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) severe cognitive disorder; (2) other neurological or severe musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. fracture, amputation, severe arthritis); (3) joint contracture; (4) cardiovascular condition, peripheral vascular disease or other severe medical problems that prohibited their participation (e.g. cancer, pregnancy, coagulation disorders); (5) received intramuscular drugs or surgical interventions; (6) participated in other clinical trials within six months.
