Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. students were between the ages of 12 and 16, in generally good health except visually impaired, and possessed a minimum of 20 scorable teeth; 2. they were available for the duration of the study and had obtained parental consent; 3. they presented at baseline a mean Quigley-Hein (Turesky Modification) Plaque Index (Q-H PlI) score of 1.5 or greater and a mean Loe and Silness Gingival Index (GI) score of 1.0 or greater.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Students who had orthodontic appliances or removable prostheses, tumors of the soft and hard oral tissues, advanced periodontal disease, 5 or more carious lesions requiring restorative treatment, had participated in any other clinical study or test panel within 4 weeks before entry into the study, or if they had received antibiotic therapy during 4 weeks before the start of the study were excluded.
