Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with stroke meet the Diagnostic Standard of Chinese Society of Neurology in 1995; 2. Patients with hemiparesis in the early stages of stroke (within 30 days from onset); 3. To be aged from 18 to 70 years; 4. Able to lift 2 fingers with the fore-arm pronated on the table or able to extend the wrist at least 10 degree from a fully flexed position; 6. Patients who can maintain a sitting position for more than 30 minutes; 7. No clear sign of dementia, mental disorder or aphasia that becomes an obstacle to daily living; 8. Had most desire for rehabilitation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with stroke in progression or other disease e that preclude upper-extremity training; 2. the patients who cannot perform the active task training due to the presence of arthralgia or shoulder dislocation; 3. Restricted joint activities in the affected upper extremity or other neurological condition affecting motor function; 4. Serious increased muscular tension and Modified Ashworth 2 or higher.
