45 Years to 79 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male or female, 45 years or older, with a diagnosis of knee OA, radiographic evidence of at least one osteophyte at the tibiofemoral joint, (Kellgren-Lawrence grade higher than 2), moderate or greater clinically significant knee pain on most days during the previous month, not received acupuncture treatment in the past three monthsand, and willingnesss to sign the consent form for random assignment to either a treatment group or a placebo group.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: the presence of serious medical conditions that precluded participation in the study, intraarticular corticosteroid or hyaluronate injections (as well as any knee surgeries or concomitant topical use of capsaicin cream) during the past 6 months, previous experience with drug tests, and any plans that would interfere with participation in the entire 4-week study.
