Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eligible patients were at least 18 years of age, and were metabolically affected by the CMS. The cardio-metabolic syndrome was defined using the 2005 IDF (international diabetes foundation) recommendations: waist circumference (primarily based on the epidemiological data of Shanghai and Hong Kong)>=90 cm for males and >= 80 cm for females, fasting serum-triglyceride levels of >=1.7 mmol/L, HDL-C =130/85 and FPG >=5.6 mmol/L.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for the study were inability to attend the scheduled intervention.
