Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria Participants with the following conditions will be included: 1. Obesity according to the childhood obesity definition of the International Obesity Task Force; 2. Age: 8 to 10 years; 3. Tanner stage 1; 4. Availability: participates in three exercise sessions per week over a period of six months; 5. With at least one parent willing to attend treatment meetings; and 6. No family member is currently involved in another weight control program.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria Participants with any of the following conditions will be excluded: 1. Inability to communicate in Chinese; 2. Suffers from diabetes or a psychiatric disorder (e.g., schizophrenia, severe autism, mental retardation, or psychosis); 3. Exercise-induced or uncontrolled angina within three months or severe dyspnea at rest; 4. A medical condition that involves a syndrome cause of obesity or use of medication that influences weight gain or loss; and 5. Other illnesses that render participation in this study inadvisable as judged by the patient or study physician.
