Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with intermediate to high risk for postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) were eligible for participation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded from the study if they were immunocompromised; were pregnant; converted to an open thoracotomy because of poor visualization or bleeding; were aged 80 years or if informed consent could not be obtained.
