Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) has been diagnosed by the physician as medial compartment knee OA according to the clinical and radiographic criteria proposed by the American College of Rheumatology (Altman Asch, Bloch, Bole & Borenstein et al, 1986); (2) the affected knee was of grade 2 or 3 according to the standards of Kellgren/Lawrence grade (Kellgren & Lawrence, 1957) by radiographic examination; (3) pain level higher than 3 on VAS scale, and (4) ability to walk and climb stairs without assistance.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) lateral compartment KOA; (2) asymptomatic KOA patients or other neuromusculoskeletal diseases that may affect gait and/or cognitive function, such as lower extremity injury, rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathic arthropathy, stroke or fracture; (3) accepted intra-articular injection such as corticosteroid in the previous two months; (4) had accepted a total knee replacement or plan to take the surgery in the following year; (5) underwent any biomedical treatment such as medication, exercise program or physical therapy, TCM and other rehabilitative therapy within a week.
