45 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants were recruited into the study if they were at 2 weeks post stroke as confirmed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan; at 6 weeks within stroke onset; between 45 and 75 years old; unable to walk with any walk aid; with a Barthel Index (BI) <60; severely affected, with the affected leg scoring <=3 on the seven-point Chedoke-McMaster Stroke Assessment scale (Schepers et al., 2007); with an unaffected leg that can move against normal resistance; cardiovascularly stable according to 12-lead ECG;able to understand the purpose and content of the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. other orthopedic disease impairing ergometer exercise training; 2. using medications that may significantly alter the heart rate;
