18 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 18-75 years; 2. Esophageal cancer patients who need surgery and do not necessary to receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy; 3. Have the agreeing ability; 4. Diabetics are on medication (metformin, TZDs, insulin or sulfonylurea) would be excluded.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with renal insufficiency: females serum creatinine more than at least 1.4mg/dL and males more than at least 1.5mg/dL; 2. Pregnant or lactating women; 3. Suffer from other malignancies and undergoing treatment actively; 4. Unstable angina, uncontrolled ischemic cardiomyopathy or congestive heart failure with symptoms (for example: New York Heart Association functional class III or IV); 5. Receive oral insulin, metformin or sulfonylurea medications currently; 6. Have a history of lactic acidosis; 7. Chronic liver disease or cirrhosis; 8. Do not have the agreeing ability; 9. Patients who has participated or are participating in other clinical trials in the last year; 10. Allergic or intolerant of metformin.
