Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) inpatients presenting with a rectal mass required tumor staging and treatment planning; (2) distal border less than 15cm to the anal verge by endoscopy; (3) subsequent surgical resection within 2 weeks after ultrasonography examination.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients previously underwent radiotherapy or chemotherapy or rectal surgery.
