Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individual patients with ischaemic stroke were diagnosed according to clinical features and neuroimaging criteria that included the sudden onset of a non-conclusive and focal neurological de?cit with corresponding infarction on brain imaging with computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, echocardiography, transcranial Doppler ultrasound, or carotid duplex imaging. Magnetic resonance angiography and computed tomography angiography were performed when necessary.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with cancer, autoimmune disease, chronic inflammation, renal or liver insufficiency, and haematopathy were excluded.Patients with severe cardiac, renal or hepatic diseases and those with cancer were also excluded from the study.
