Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. The diagnostic criteria for dry eye included dry eye-related symptoms, BUT=10s, Schirmer I test=5mm/5min,and . The corneal corneal epithelial staining was positive. In the exclusion of other causes, the patients has item 1&2 (less than 5 seconds) or 1&2 (less than 10 seconds) &3 or 4 can be diagnosed with dry eye. According to the MGD diagnostic criteria at the international workshop on meibomian gland dysfunction in 2011the patient who has one of the following 3 clinical parameters can be diagnosed with MGD: (1) meibomian gland dropout; (2) altered meibomian gland secretion (meibum quality varied in appearance from a cloudy fluid to a viscous fluid containing particulate matter to a densely opaque, inspissated or toothpaste-like material); (3) changes in lid morphology, including pugging of the meibomian orifices, the anterior or retro-placement of the mucocutaneous junction itself, and the inflammation of the lid margin, as evidenced by a thickening of the lid margin, vascular engorgement and telangiectasia of the posterior lid margin. Patients who met the diagnostic criteria for dry eye and MGD were included in this study.Dependent on whether there is inflamation of the lid margin, the patients were classified as Inflammatory MGD dry eye group and non inflammatory MGD dry eye group; 2. The normal group included SPEED score less than 5,no instability of tear film(Schirmer test>10mm, TBUT<10s) ,no corneal and conjunctival epithelial staining, no abnormal changes of lid margin and meibum quality.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients under 18 years old and those who wore contact lenses, had a history of ocular surgery within the previous 3 months, or had an ocular injury, increased palpebral fissure width, lid deformity, ocular infection or allergy, or seborrhea or an autoimmune disease were excluded. We also excluded patients using a punctal plug and those using topical ocular medications within the prior 2 weeks.
