Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: We recruited 26 untreated first-episode patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), based on the DSM-IV criteria (American Psychiatric Association,1994), Yale-brown Scale (the Yale-brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Y-BOCS) total score >16 points. HAMD (Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, 24 item) total score<35. The results of cerebral EEG, CT or MRI were normal. They, including 16 males and 10 females whose mean age was 27.13±8.98 years, were from in the in/out-patient clinic in the department of psychology at the third hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in China. 20 voluntary controls individually matched for age, sex, handedness, level of education and Intelligence quotient (IQ), 11 males and 9 females with a mean age of 29.3+/-6.8 years, were free of neurological and psychiatric disorders, without the history of OCD.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: All patients had been excluded serious body or brain organic disease, substance abuse, as well as other neurological or psychiatric disorders including depression (HAMD score>35) without any lifetime history of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, tics and alcohol/substance abuse.
